The 2025-26 league phase produced a single table covering all 36 clubs, played over eight matchdays between 16 September 2025 and 28 January 2026. The table was frozen when matchday eight finished on 28 January 2026 and decides every route out of the competition: a direct route to the round of 16, a two-legged play-off, or elimination. The figures below are the final official standings.

How the League Phase Table Works

Clubs earned three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat, exactly as in a domestic league. Because 36 teams share one table, ties are common and the tie-breakers matter more than in the old group format. Clubs level on points are separated first by goal difference and then by goals scored, with the UEFA club coefficient ranking and a drawing of lots used only if everything else remains level.

The Top Eight and Direct Qualification

Eight clubs finished with enough points to skip the play-off and enter the round of 16 in March.

  • 1. Arsenal — 8 wins, 0 draws, 0 defeats; 23 scored, 4 conceded; +19; 24 points.
  • 2. Bayern Munich — 7-0-1; 22-8; +14; 21 points.
  • 3. Liverpool — 6-0-2; 20-8; +12; 18 points.
  • 4. Tottenham — 5-2-1; 17-7; +10; 17 points.
  • 5. Barcelona — 5-1-2; 22-14; +8; 16 points.
  • 6. Chelsea — 5-1-2; 17-10; +7; 16 points.
  • 7. Sporting CP — 5-1-2; 17-11; +6; 16 points.
  • 8. Manchester City — 5-1-2; 15-9; +6; 16 points.

Arsenal were the only club in the competition to complete the league phase undefeated, and their +19 goal difference was the best of the 36. Four clubs from England, two from Germany, one from Spain and one from Portugal filled the direct-qualification places.

Positions 9 to 24: The Knockout Play-Off Cohort

Sixteen clubs finished between 9th and 24th place, with totals ranging from 13 points down to 10. They contested the knockout play-off over two legs on 17/18 and 24/25 February 2026, with eight winners advancing to the round of 16 and eight going out. Paris Saint-Germain occupied 11th place in the league phase and used the play-off as the first step on the road to the title.

Positions 25 to 36: Eliminated at the League Phase

Twelve clubs finished between 25th and 36th place, returning totals of between nine and one point. Their European campaign ended on 28 January 2026 with no knockout football to play. Real Madrid, the reigning 2024-25 holders, were among the clubs eliminated at this stage, which is the sharpest possible contrast with a season in which Paris Saint-Germain went on to lift the trophy.

Country Representation Across the 36 Clubs

Sixteen national associations were represented in the league phase, and the distribution shows how the qualification routes widened after the format change.

  • England — 6 clubs; Spain — 5; Italy — 4; Germany — 4.
  • France — 3; Netherlands — 2; Portugal — 2; Belgium — 2.
  • Türkiye, Czechia, Norway, Greece, Denmark, Cyprus, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan — 1 club each.

Four of those single representatives — Bodø/Glimt, Kairat Almaty, Union Saint-Gilloise and Pafos — played their first league phase in the competition. For the full tie sheet and knockout routing, see our bracket page.
