AT&T Stadium stands as one of the most awe-inspiring sports and entertainment venues ever constructed. Located in Arlington, Texas, the facility opened on May 27, 2009, and serves as the home of the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. Nicknamed “Jerry World” in honour of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who drove the project with an almost singular vision, the stadium pushed the boundaries of what a sports venue could be.

Construction began in 2006 and the budget ballooned from $650 million to a final cost of $1.3 billion — one of the most expensive sports venues in history. HKS Architects designed the iconic steel arch structure, whose twin arches soar nearly 300 feet overhead and support a retractable roof that allows the stadium to adapt to Texas weather. The roof panels can retract in minutes, turning the enclosed bowl into an open-air arena when conditions permit.

Inside, the stadium seats 80,000 in standard configuration, expandable to over 100,000 with standing areas. The Mitsubishi centre-hung video board was the largest HDTV screen in the world at the time of installation, measuring 175 feet wide — a landmark achievement that quickly became one of the stadium’s signature attractions. The 26 interchangeable turf panels beneath allow rapid conversion between football, soccer, concerts, and even motocross events.

The venue has hosted iconic moments: Super Bowl XLV in 2011 (Packers 31, Steelers 25), the 2010 NBA All-Star Game with a then-record 108,713 spectators, and WrestleMania 38 where 131,372 fans set a WWE attendance record. Taylor Swift performed three consecutive sold-out nights here in 2023, drawing over 210,000 fans.

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, AT&T Stadium will host nine matches — more than any other venue in the tournament — underscoring its status as the premier sports cathedral of the American South and a fitting stage for the world’s greatest sporting spectacle.
